Ancient Wisdom, Modern Path
The Neo Vedanta Organization (NVO) is dedicated to spreading the profound and transformative teachings of Neo Vedanta, which
include all the ancient scriptures of Sanatan Dharma and allied Dharmas, i.e., Budhism, Jainism, and Sikhism.
This modern interpretation of Vedanta integrates ancient Indian wisdom with contemporary thought, creating a holistic approach to spiritual growth and social harmony.
A brief history of the foundation:
According to Indian historians, the Sanatan Hindu Dharma has been practiced consistently in the eastern world for millions of years. Religious figures such as Gautama Buddha, Mahavira, and Shankaracharya introduced new beliefs and ways of life between 500 BC and 700 AD. In the 17th to 19th centuries, a modern interpretation of the ancient wisdom from all four religions emerged, known as Neo Vedanta or Hindu modernism. This movement, starting in the 19th century as a reinterpretation of traditional Advaita Vedanta, was championed by influential figures like Guru Gobind Singh, Swami Vivekananda, Sri Aurobindo, and Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. Neo-Vedanta emphasizes connecting all Eastern faiths, advocating for kindness, and nurturing individual spiritual growth. The Neo Vedanta Organization was established by like-minded individuals in the early 1960s under the name Neo Vedanta Forum. Following the passing of its main leader, Dr. C R Shah, in 2005, the forum became less active. Subsequently, a forum member named Dr. Radheshyam Mishra took on the responsibility of carrying forward the forum's work on a broader and global scale. For the past decade, Dr. Mishra has been dedicated to uniting religious leaders from various Eastern traditions and creating a platform where they can share the timeless wisdom of the ancients in a modern context with the world.
At the Neo Vedanta Society, our mission is to inspire the youth of the world to embrace the timeless wisdom of Vedanta. Neo-Vedanta brings ancient spiritual teachings into a modern context, emphasizing unity and inclusivity across all cultures and religions. By applying these universal values, we can create a more compassionate and peaceful world. We invite you to join us in this journey of self-discovery, using the principles of Vedanta to live with purpose and contribute to the well-being of humanity.
